Sclerotherapy is a simple and popular in-office procedure for eliminating spider and varicose veins. We inject a sclerosing solution into the unsightly veins causing them to collapse and fade from the naked eye. Treatment does not prevent new spider veins from developing but can dramatically decrease those already present.

Most patients feel very little pain and no anesthesia are needed. Compression tape is applied to the area after the injections. Sclerotherapy takes about 15 minutes to an hour to perform, depending on the number and length of the veins treated.

Support hose should be worn for several days to help keep the treated veins collapsed and reduce the chance of blood clots. Some patients experience temporary itching or cramping at the injection site. Bruising and discoloration can last for several weeks before fading.
